The FUSD #1 School Board requires that all students at FUSD High Schools must complete 40 hours of community service, or 5 hours per semester attended, by the time of their graduation.
After completing Community Service Hours, you will need to fill out a "Community Service Hour Form" to document your service. This form will need to be completed and turned in to the office the same school year as you complete the project.
Here are some helpful guidelines to use when determining if what you are doing is community service...
-Community Service is work done by a person or group that benefits others
-Community Service can help any group of people in need, such as children, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and more.
-Community Service is often organized through a local group, such as a non-profit organization, school, or place of worship.
-Community Service is typically supervised by someone who can verify the work you have completed (not a parent or family member).
Examples of Community Service
-Working with Children (tutoring, coaching, mentoring).
-Working with Senior Citizens (visiting residents at a senior center).
-Improving the Environment (recycling drives, planting trees, cleaning up a local park).
-Helping low income people (toy drives, food bank collection, helping the homeless).
-Volunteering with the FUSD Community Education Site at the various Community Events they offer.
-Volunteering at Animal Shelters, with Food Banks, at local Farmers Markets, at the Library, etc.
Not Considered Community Service
-Babysitting for an individual family.
-Completing Yard Work for someone, if not part of a larger group initiative.
-Working for a business without pay.
-Work completed as a required part of a class or after school activity (for example CAVIT "clinics").
