Tammy Quist

Term Through December 31, 2024

Tammy has over 30 years of experience in business, education and professional development related fields. She has been a teacher, principal, keynote speaker, workshop facilitator, school improvement coordinator, coach for individuals and teams, and a consultant through restructuring and reform efforts for every grade level K-16. She considers herself a “thought leader and agent of change” - always looking at ways of improving her own performance as well as facilitating the growth of others. Her professional mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of others by collaborating, increasing knowledge and skills, and inspiring learners to grow and develop into their best selves. This includes working with teachers, administrators, schools, districts and the business and larger community to create equity and close the achievement gaps that exist between various student groups who are often under-served: students of color, students in poverty, and exceptional learners.

Her ultimate goal is to assist educators in providing a world-class education for ALL students, one in which each student is an engaged participant who recognizes his/her responsibility and contribution to society as a whole. This means rigorous, relevant instruction and a service-oriented global perspective, which enables our next generation to solve the myriad of problems that exist in our world today.

Tammy has always been an active community member and serves on advisory councils, state level boards, and volunteers whenever and wherever she is able. Tammy’s accolades include being selected Teacher of the Year in California as well as being nominated for Colorado Principal of the Year. However, her biggest professional distinctions arise when the students, teachers, and leaders ultimately serve,  grow, excel and are recognized for their outstanding efforts and performance.

Tammy lives in San Tan Valley with two humans and five four-legged furry friends.  She is mom to three adult children and Grandma to one amazing grandson, all of whom also live in STV.  When she's not working with schools, children, and the community, she can usually be found enjoying the outdoors.

Jeffrey Carr

Term Through December 31, 2026

Jeff has an extensive background in the field of education. His main emphasis has been on vocational education. His teaching background includes teaching Vocational Agriculture in high schools in Indiana and Missouri. He was also a corporate trainer, school director, and director of training at a nationally known truck driving school.

Jeff is a graduate of Purdue University with a BS in Agriculture, which includes a dual major in agronomy and animal science. He holds a Master of Education degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. He also possesses a lifetime teaching license from the state of Indiana and holds a certificate for the education of disadvantaged and handicapped students in the state of Missouri.

His philosophy on education is that you should never stop learning. An avid reader, he endeavors to learn more daily.

As a board member, Jeff believes that it is his duty to adhere to the needs of all students in our schools. All community members are stakeholders in FUSD and he recognizes that it is a board member’s duty to provide a welcoming learning environment for children of all backgrounds. In fulfilling this duty, he feels that a board member must be stewards of the limited funds provided. By providing a positive and welcoming learning environment, we can ensure all students can rise to their highest potential.

Public schools are an integral part of the community, and he believes it is the mission of FUSD to provide students with the best education available. He believes that a major requirement for the school system is to meet the needs of the community. The major emphasis in education should be on what he calls the basics. These include English, Math, and the Sciences. He also believes that the school system needs to include history, philosophy, and other coursework that broadens the minds of our students. Students need to be taught how to think and not what to think.

Jeff encourages parental involvement in all areas of their child’s educational experience.

Jeff was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana and grew up in a middle-class family with an older brother and a younger sister. After graduating high school, Jeff attended an electronics school and then entered the US Air Force and served in Thailand, Japan, Korea, and Viet Nam along with stateside assignments. After leaving the service, he got married and went to Purdue on the G.I. Bill.

Jeff and his wife moved to Florence in 2016. Jeff is the father of three sons and one daughter. He also has three grandsons and one granddaughter.
