Florence Unified School District's Parent Engagement Classes
The following are the three classes we will be holding for parents, and those students interested in, on current topics.

THE EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY ON THE DEVELOPING BRAIN
When:
Wednesday, April 5th 6:00 p.m.

Where: Skyline Ranch K-8, 1084 W San Tan Hills Dr, San Tan Valley, AZ 85143 (directions)
What: Parent Engagement Class Raising happy and successful teens in an age of anxiety and distraction. Led by FUSD school psychologist Dr. Amy Curtiss and Ben Curtiss. Every attendee will receive the book: The New Adolescence: Raising Happy and Successful Teens In An Age of Anxiety and Distraction by Christine Carter.

THE EFFECTS OF CHRONIC STRESS ON THE DEVELOPING BRAIN
When:
Wednesday, April 19th 6:00 p.m.
Where: Skyline Ranch K-8, 1084 W San Tan Hills Dr, San Tan Valley, AZ 85143 (directions)
What: Parent Engagement Class Learn how stress, adversity, and trauma impact brain development. This class will help parents and care givers better understand their child’s behavior as it relates to stress and trauma, as well as learn ways to help buffer the effects of trauma and help children build resilience. Led by FUSD school psychologist Dr. Amy Curtiss and Ben Curtiss. Every attendee will receive the book: What Happened to You by Dr. Bruce Perry and Oprah Winfrey.

THE EFFECTS OF WELLNESS ON THE DEVELOPING BRAIN
When:
Wednesday, May 17th 6:00 p.m.
Where: Skyline Ranch K-8, 1084 W San Tan Hills Dr, San Tan Valley, AZ 85143 (directions)
What: Parent Engagement Class In this workshop, parents will learn the difference between stress and overwhelm, assess their levels of stress and burnout, learn regulation and self-care strategies to promote resilience. Aspects from Kristin Neff’s Self-Compassion work, Shawn Achor’s work with Happiness, mindfulness and brain science will be included in this workshop. Led by FUSD's Director of Social Emotional Learning; James Bock, FUSD Instructional Coach; Kim Jukich, and FUSD Family Resource Coordinator; Jody Shagena. Every attendee will receive tools for mindfulness, journaling, and wellness.
